Implosion Video: Steamtown's Neighborhood.

On another thread, there were some of us who commented on the sad state of downtown Scranton that was apparent during visits to Steamtown. Here was the solution…Staying at the former Lackawana Station and enjoying the historic fabric of the neighborhood…it’s a shame it could not have been rehabbed for reuse. I kept hearing Joni Mitchell singing “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot…”

Agree - very sad. I wonder where exactly that was. It’s dated as 1992, 15 years ago. What 14 year old building is there in downtown? I believe the mall is older than that.

When I viewed it I assumed it was on the corner directly across from the hotel but that can’t be based on your dating of it…I thought Scranton Hobbies was leveled whose building in that block looked pretty marginal…I hope not.

Do you mean Grzyboski’s Trains?

They are (or have already) moving down to where the baseball stadium is, and where the trolley barn is. When I spoke to the lady there, she said they would be able to set up a layout in the new location.

You’re right, it does look exactly like that block, but the date is definetely 1992 on the YouTube site, so it must have been a similar block (still sad).
