News was released today that UP intends to merge with itself. “The merger should be good for competition”, reported new UP board member Andrew Card. “We don’t forsee any problems down the road as a result of this merger - any negative impact on the competition should be minimal”. It remains to be seen if the Surface Transportation Board will approve of this merger, however. “We’ve never had to deal with a self-merger before,” commented outgoing transportation chief Norman Minetta. “We will conduct any necessary environmental impact studies necessary before we approve or deny this merger”.
I think it is incredibly amusing, but just to add to the turmoil - they will merge and leave half the fleet in Yellow and half in orange and black with swoosh Union Pacific. (Only because everyone wants livery in either all butter or halloween!)
This isn’t a merger, it’s a takeover. Doggone that UP for taking over my favorite railroad, the UP! Long live the UP! Didn’t they ever stop to think what railfans would think. Sheesh. I’ll bet all the former UP locos are patched pretty soon, too. Then I’ll have no reason to chase trains anymore. I’ll never forgive you for this UP!
I fear it may be worse than you realize! Up is famous for quickly repainting the locomotives of merged lines. So you know what that means- they’ll quickly paint over all those Armour Yellow locomotives with a thcik coat of Armour Yellow and Mist Gray!! Oh, the horrors!![:O]
