In open letter to Lac-Mégantic, Central Maine & Quebec president says railroad is safe

What else would he say? He’s trying to protect his job and earn his six-figure salary.

You know, generally I don’t like caving to communities along an active line that oppose seeing more trains, but in Lac Megantic’s case I really think the CM&Q needs to see if they can find a RoW they can use to bypass that city. The mental anguish from that one event for so many there must be terrible.

Still, this letter is a hell of a lot better and less burkhardian than that stupid threat of lawsuits earlier.

It seems that Mr. Giles is doing everything in his power to reassure the people of Lac-Megantic that CM&Q is and has been rebuilding the railway. They would want an unsafe railway no more than the citizens of Lac-Megantic.

The rail was never the problem. Procedure was the problem.

BH, hit it on the head. The problem was procedural. I suspect the train that had the run away once brake pressure bled off was parked where it was because there were no grade crossings that the consist blocked and it was a very short ride to a motel for required crew rest. Obviously not very wise.
