In search of a model engine...where to ask?

Which forum can I post a WTB thread? There isnt any “Buy/Sell” sections.

thanks

Kevin

You can ask here I’d say - check ebay if it’s out of production, or ask your LHS if they can order one if it’s readily available.

Ok, I will ask here.

I am looking for :
a Brass G-5 4-6-0 by Gem or Westside.
painted or unpainted, no matter.
In good running order.

I missed the ebay auction that had a Westside g-5…it went for $158.00 I cant believe i didnt see it before it ended.

I think you’ll have to keep an eye on ebay for that - either that or contact one of the specialist brass dealers who advertise in MR. It’s very rare indeed to have only one item appear - in my experience they tend to come in batches. I waited a year to get hold of an Athearn Maxi-III kit then the week after I bagged one another five turned up!

The reason you don’t see Buy/Sell postings here is that we’re not supposed to do that here. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but the forum could easily end up filled with Buy/Sell posts, and it would lose its value as a discussion group. Kalmbach is nice enough to provide the forums for us, but they do ask that we stay away from making it into a swap meet.

Besides, eBay is just so much fun, and serves the purpose better than this forum could ever hope to. eBay has a “want to buy” feature now. You might want to try that out. Good luck!

Ever considered a kit? Bowser makes a Pennsy G-5. Bowser is currently selling the kit for $75.00. The super detail kit is $27.00.

I’d recommend saving a search for it on ebay and checking back. I’ve sometimes had to wait months and months before something I wanted showed up, but if you wait long enough it will show up at a decent price.

I am a member of the Atariage web site. they have several forums and a “marketplace” forum is there and they dont seem to have posts to just that one forum…all of the different forum categories seem to have plenty of posts. I dont think having one would take value away from the rest of the forums on this site.

Also there are tons of Atari items on ebay, but the “marketplace” category on atariage seems to still serve a purpose…a place where members can trade/sell their items to other enthusiests so no one gets ripped off by someone overpricing junk.

I am not bashing this forum in anyway, dont get me wrong. I enjoy this site very much, I just thought that a marketplace category would be something that could/might be beneficial.

no matter though, I wil just keep watching for emails from my saved search for the item on ebay.

It is easy to miss a single entry in E-bay. Use the Search Engine there and put in “Westside” or “G-5” or the wheel arrangement (4-6-0?). This will give you a list of just those items, if there are any. I was tracking and assortment of 77 switches in the “Buildings, Tracks, and Accessories” section. All I had to do to find it was to enter “77 switches” in the search box.
