Well last night I got my computer up and running after a major over haul etc. I bring this up due to the dang think is what makes me a modeler. I create my decals with it, I creat my track plans (unless I use my template), Draw out building interiors, and now I wanted to do car cards which I can finally do with my desktop. Well the battle of getting everything plugged in the back became body threatning. I sprained my ankle by turning it one way and I wanted to go the other way well lets just say I said a few choice words. So unforunately the railroad in the basement has to wait I cant get a shoe on if it was life or death. Hopefully the swelling goes down. well off to play with the computer. Thanks for lending an ear.
You see why we model the Transition Era and before? No &^$*@ computers!
i dont actually use the computer for the layout I print the car cars up etc.
Elevate the foot for lengths of time (stay off it as much as you can!!!), and rest bags of frozen peas or corn against the ankle. Do this every hour or so the first 36 hours, and when the swelling goes down, bandage the ankle up properly so that its range of motion is restricted by about 60% or so. Then, walk slowly and carefull on it several times during the day for about 10 minutes…no shoes, just careful walking. Ice the ankle again immediately after every session of walking. By the third day, you should be back to near-normal walking, but you will still need a bracing bandage or something for the next five days.
I don’t mean to lecture, but I sprained my ankle badly twice on an orienteering championship on the Island of Cyprus when I was peacekeeping many years ago. When I finished my run, only then did my ankle begin to swell…and oh, how it swelled! I rested it, but bound it securely the next day, and played several games of badminton on it…always mindful of my ankle. The next day, I ran for 20 minutes. By the fourth day, it seemed like I was never injured. I learned from that experience that: A. compression and icing of the joint are hugely beneficial early and for the next 24-36 hours, and B. getting back to normal usage as quickly as possible speeds the healing…just be careful to support the injury well and be alert to renewed swelling and pain.
What do yoy do with the peas & corn afterwards, eat them? Maybe it’s the peas & corn diet that healed your ankle![dinner]
I waas going to relate a joke about someone with a computer problem, but I’m sure you feel bad enough without some wiseguy joking about the ankle! Get well soon![:)]
Send your Dad out for a six-pack of beer and a couple of Jordan vehicle kits. Put 2 of the beers on your ankle, and put the rest in the refrigerator. Put together the kit. It may take a couple of days to properly paint and assemble it. Periodically rotate the beer cans to keep them cold. When you’re done, put the car/truck on your layout and give the beers to your Dad for being a nice guy about the whole thing.
As a young man, of course, you could just drink the beers all at once, and be so sick that you’ll forget about your ankle. I think the first option is better.
Please be sure to remit to selector a check in the amount of $100.00 for his expert medical advice.[:-^]
Always keep a bag of flexible frozen something-or-other that you DONT like for this purpose. If you hate peas, keep a bag, if its lima beans keep a bag. A problem can arise if you use something you might eat later. They can get thawed, refrozen, thawed, refrozen etc with use and may not be the best when eaten later! (ask me how I know…) I keep frozen peas…no one her
What an excuse to procrastinate; next thing you know you’ll be telling us you can’t get into the basement because there is a boogyman hiding under the Tacoma Yard. Own up!!! You lost your cool and tried to kick the stupid machine over the back fence.
Hope you get back to (model) trackside soon.
Thanks for the advice and funny comment. The ankle is going down in size and I think maybe tomorrow I can fit my slippers on to go do modeling on the basement and nope not modeling my feet. We will see what I can get done if anything tomorrow.
When you finish eating your peas, drinking your beer, and after your ankle heals, move the computer into the layout room, download a fast-time program, and develop a timetable for the layou. Then the computer WILL be a part of the layout…get well soon.
Well with some really interesting ideas how to get better I did manage to get the foot unswollen and in a show unfortunately I didnt get to doing anything on the layout as of yet. If time allows tonight after dinner dad and I will be going to install the last final piece on the top layer so I can get going in the yard and actually solder up the turnouts and some trackage.
