In the trees...

On a cloudy PNW day, BNSF 7677 leads a unit grain train through the tree cut and under the wooden bridge at the east end of Home Valley Park in Home Valley, Washington. If you look closely you can see fallen leaves being kicked up by the train as it passes.

BNSF Home Valley

I hope you enjoy the photo,

NICE! That feels like standing right there… Thanks, for sharing!

Oh, I did enjoy it, Ryan! Thanks!

About the one redeeming virtue of BNSF’s paint scheme is that it looks nice in the fall. (I’d say the same about UP’s, in the aspens of Colorado.)

Nice composition -

  • juxtaposition of the modern unit with the old-style wooden bridge (whatever its actual age);

  • the horizontal geometry of the top of the loco with the bridge, and the line of the train against the vertical column/ bent and the diagonal braces; and,

  • the orange lead unit that ‘pops’ out from the background of green trees but still with ‘echoes’ of that tone in some of the adjoining trees.

If you can get a sunny day there while the the leaves are still orange / yellow and a similar lead unit, that might be a pretty brilliantly-colored photo.

Thanks for sharing, as always.

Fantastic, just look at that photo to see what rail photography is all about. Congratulations on a great shot.

Thank you all for you kind comments on the photo. I’m glad you all enjoyed the shot.

I was trying to take a photo at this location with sun, but due to the tall trees on either side of the tracks, the only time sun can be seen in this area is during the high summer sun hours. For that reason, I elected to go back to get this shot on a cloudy day.

Again, thank you for taking the time to look at the photo.

Very nice shot!

Wow! Well that’s certainly a stunner! Nicely done, Ryan!
