In your opinion, what is the best songs ever written about the railroads?

Juicy Lucy - Chicago North Western.

or

Ducks DeLuxe - Fireball - oddly not about the WM but containing the lines:-

“We got past Macon
Thought we had a brake on
But we shucked it all off
Diesels grifting
Driver shifting
Gotta’ get North.”

I like it anyway…

“Train Train” by Blackfoot.

Memphis Train, originally performed by Rufus Thomas (I think), and later by Buddy Miles, both of whom are musical gods in my book.

I dont see any one offering the train songs of Merle Haggerd, his album My Love affair with Trains has some great songs of trains including his childhood ,being raised in a boxcar on the SP ,I think he mentions that his dad worked for the RR and they lived in a boxcar in a freight yard in California someplace…Just to mention a few ,Mama Tried,Hobo Jungle …[2c] Danny

Glendale Train by The New Riders of the Purple Sage

Talking Casey- Mississippi John Hurt

haven’t heard Glendale Train, but New Riders- GTB good
