Ok I have seen the post on who has the worst paint on a loco but now tell me in your opinion who has the best, pictures would help but are not required. I am new and really hav not formed any opinion as to what looks best yet but I like simple.
The UP United Way, Blue with white stars.
SP4449 do you have a picture of it?
Yeh. Have to dig it out and post it.
thanks I would like to see this loco.
That is a nice looking Loco. Man would that baby be had to model with all those stars.
It should be pretty easy. Start with an SD40-2 and a set of Microscale decals for the Union Pacific United Way Locomotive, set number 87-851. The decal set will have painting instructions in it. Have fun. BTW, the decal set includes the starts, too. [:)]
Erie Lackawanna Gray/Yellow/Maroon!
For steam, my favorite has been any of the Southern Pacific GS-series 4-8-4’s painted in the “Daylight” scheme. For diesel, I liked the Rio Grande “Grande Gold” and silver single-stripe that looked especially striking on their ALCO PA’S.
what else colors are there?..SP Gray and Bloody Nose Red!..of course, the "black widow "paint scheme was the second best!..Chuck[:D]
Nothing beats CB&Q’s Redbird scheme!
But Rock Island’s maroon/yellow, BN’s Executive, and Western Pacific’s passenger F unit scheme come close!
Yup, that’s my favorite. Surprised? (impossible, it’s not a UP unit!) [;)]
I like both RBMN schemes. Both photos by myself.
Here’s the best in the West!!
CHESSIE SYSYEM…love that color scheme.
I like engine black, with weathered and somewhat greasy looking running gear. Silver or dark gray smoke box and stack. Mineral red cab roof, BN green cab interior, caboose red side window mullions and Microscale Northern Pacific on the tender sides.
Ditto for Chessie on an EMD hood
With the exception of 3railGuy’s Texas Special, Wow those are some Ugly diesel photos ! ! !

Man I must be getting old to remember when trains were painted to evoke speed and style. Some of you guys must be too young to remember when trains weren’t painted like delivery trucks…
