Is this 0-4-0 coal, oil, or hay fired? I guess it’s a cab forward.

How long before BLI comes out with a sound equipped model? [:)]

Years ago, Railroad Magazine had a similar picture and called this arrangement an “0-4-0 Pachyderm type.”
I wonder if it can do RCO?
Or works for peanuts?[:-^]
If we had those units working over here, I’m sure the EPA would have a fit over the emissions!
Wonder how it compares to the “Green Goat”?
Looks like a one man crew. BLET or UTU?
Wonder what it would look like in Tuscan and pinstripes?
Would that be the “elephant whisker” scheme? (Ouch) [tdn]
Yes, but coal shovels would become popular again!

Put another one on the back end pushing and that would give elephant style a whole new meaning.[:)]
Where’s the “F” on the elephant? How are we supposed to know which way it will go when signalled to “proceed”?
I’d like to see’em try Remote Controlling that!
Hmmm wait a minute… the driver does have a joystick of sorts…[:O]
What are you talking about? Don’t you see that huge MU hose hanging off the front? [:D]
Well, the next time some one whines about this forum going to the dogs, I’ll just point them over here…[swg]
So this must be a MU?

I’ tell ya-the whole industry went to heck, when they replaced the old tried & true burros with those new-fangled elephants![:(!] They all look the same! As soon as the last burro was sent to the scrapper, the whole industry was on a slide. They were the main cause of the Pachederm Central debacle don’t you know?
I’ll bet it is really a sight when that unit spews smoke out of it’s exhaust stack, but does not smell as good as diesel exhaust!
Yes, but you obviously do not understand the supply side economics of scale. The elephant/burro ratio was unaccaptable to management, plus the labor costs of all those burros was too high. So management decided to go with the more powerful elephants. One elephant could do the work of 10 burros, although the fuel cost of the elephants was considerably higher.
In addition, the burros would not behave in Montana due to all of the fermenting grain on the tracks. Thus the farmers complained that the railroads were monopolizing the transportation of their grain by bringing in the elephants. Then when the owners of the Milwaukee elephants discovered that the elephants could not do better in the mountains than the burros, they decided to abandon their tracks due to lack of burro stations along the way.
Later on, it was discovered that there was a vast elephant conspiracy made up of elephant dealers. They bribed transportation people to go with the elephants, despite the dubious benefits. Then soon followed the conspiracy to get rid of the passenger burros in favor of the smooth elephant paths being constructed around the country. Some claimed it was a plot by the makers of elephant food to rid the country of its passenger burros in favor of elephants.
Burro owners demanded open access to the elephant pathways. Shippers wanted to negotiate rates based on the best transportation available, and not be held captive by the elephant owners. Once the burro pathways were gone, the the elephant owners eventually began to abandon some of
Would these be the main model of switcher on a trunk line?
I’d like to meet the guy brave enough to paint pinstripes on this model. The brush would probably tickle. Of course, that beats attaching bright metal trim. Shoveling this beast’s “ash” pit would be no fun.
The Grand Trunk lives!
What Style are the “Elephant Ears”,and will the crew have any visabilty problem with them?!
