Indiana town to receive $1.6 million grant to improve railroad infrastructure

It do believe it would behoove Trains to employ a proofreader.

It should be “115 pound rail,” not “70 or 115 pound track.” The weight refers to the weight in one yard of rail.

And…I guess all the funding goes to the Madison Railroad? Not real clear.

Oink! Oink! Oink!

Oink! Oink! Oink!

1.6 million dollars for one company what a bargain!!! Will the line ever be used for anything else. Was the company an Obama donor???
Wake up America we are broke!

Agreed.

Agreed.

Article should read “Local short line gets corporate welfare” to be more accurate.

Is this for the line with the 6% grade?

Kevin et. al. The Madison Railroad is not a private company. It is a municipally owned railway. Maybe they should have not received the grant. That is a legitimate question. But would a city who built an Interstate interchange with federal funds so that an industrial park had better highway access have gotten criticism as “corporate welfare?” There is no free-market brownie points to be had for supporting public dollars for socialized highways but not supporting public dollars for a socialized railway.

What do you call trucks using tax supported highways, Matthew?

In Cincinnati, they are spending $506 million to redo just under 11 miles of Interstate highway. That is $46.4 million per mile. One of the 9 “phases” of the work is to demolish a single bridge. That will cost…yes, $1.6 million. Note, that is just to demolish it.

NO NEW RAIL MEANS NO NEW BUSINESS AND THE EVENTUAL CESSATION OF SERVICE. TRACK IMPROVEMENT CAN KEEP AND GROW CURRENT AND, WE HOPE, NEW BUSINESS. AFTER ALL, MADISON IS AN OHIO RIVER PORT. THIS LINE TO NORTH VERNON (AND THE CSX) IS THE ONLY FUNCTIONING LINE IN THIS PART OF THE HOOSIER STATE.

Love to see the historic steep grade renewed.

Hey Moe & Mel. Trucks pay huge amounts in fuel and other taxes to “use” the roads. I know because I am one of them that pays them.
