Industrial/Dockside Layout

A while ago there was a layout featured in MR or one of the annual off-shoots detailing a small industrial/dockside layout.

Was something smaller than a 4’ x 6’, with sharp curves and fairly steep grades.

I’m planning on building a similar layout when I am back at University in the fall.

Can anyone point me to the issue, or provide similar plans?

It had an elevated main line around the back, with a lot of street running.

I think what you’re looking for is in Model Railroad Planning 2005. It’s “Compact Layout 2” called “Portable Port Railroad” by Brian C. Whiton, found on pg. 52. The layout is 3’ 4 3/4" x 8’, it has 18" radius curves and the grades look pretty steep.
Hope that helps!

Thanks!

Now, if only it is online…

Sounds like Chuck Yungkerth’s (my apologies if misspelled) original Bellefonte and Snoeshoe layout, which had a two-step switchback grade which limited trains to a Varney 0-4-0 dockside and 2 40-foot cars. I vaguely remember seeing the trackplan in the late 50’s or so. It was about six feet long and sixteen inches (or less) wide.

Hopefully someone can fill in the details I don’t remember.

“Bellefonte and Snoeshoe”? Any relation to the Gumstump & Snowshoe?
