Info, magazines, books, websites on advanced 3 rail wiring and operation 30's through 60's era

I’m the wiring guy on a larger club layout. We are trying to automate it, using the simple methods used by Lionel and others for large demo layouts in the 40’s -60’s. We currently use a system of stop sections and trigger sections to run multiple trains on one loop. We also use spring loaded turnouts to facilitate which trains go in and out of siding and which don’t depending on direction. It basically works, but needs fine tuned. I have Model Railroader magazines going back to the 60’s and even some from the 50’s, but there is little or non 3 rail info there. What books should I search out, what magazines covered advanced 3 rail techniques back then? I have OGR back to the mid or early 80’s, but there must be more out there. I know they used wheelsets to complete circuits through the outside rails, and Relays etc. Are there any GURU’s on here with old Sage advice as to how to accomplish these things. I know for sure there were some pretty advanced layouts and clever ways to do them at places like B&O exhibits, Roadside America, Choo Choo Barn. We have access to a computer controller, but we are trying to keep it simple. Also most all equipment is non TMCC equipped. Thanks in advance, Dave
