Has anybody installed a decoder in an HO IHC 4-6-4 Hudson loco before? I have installed decoderes in several other loco’s but this one is giving me a problem. Running US ( B&M) train’s in Norway is not the easiest thing to do.

I’ve installed decoders into several different IHC engines and never encounted a problem with any of them other than headlight wiring.
On all of the ones I have done, there were either 2 or 4 black wires connected to the motor terminals. If only two wires, the headlight will be wired to a separate set of pickup contacts near the front of the frame. If 4 wires are connected to the motor, two of them are for the headlight and the other two are electrical pickups.
What is the problem you are having?
Tom, I would agree with Cacole that IHC installs are generally very easy to do. The motor is isolated so the issue is one of soldering. http://www.tcsdcc.com/decoderpics/ihc_asa_packer_4_6_2.htm Here is a link to an installation example.
At one time, Rivarossi locos and passenger cars were sold under the IHC label. Is the IHC equipment still leftover Rivarossi or are they producing their own stuff now?
The IHC steamers are all made by Mehano of Slovenia. http://www.mehano.si
Tom,
There was an article in Model Railroader a few months back that had a step-by-step installation in an IHC loco. I’m at work right now so can’t give you the actual issue date, but it was fairly comprehensive and simple to follow. You shouldn’t have much trouble installing a decoder in any steamer with a tender. The hardest part, cacole is right, the hardest part is the headlight wiring.
Good luck!
I would guess that the IHC Hudson’s are the same as the Mehano Hudson’s then, right? I have a Mehano and it is decoderless, at least for now.

[:)] Thank you all for your replys. I have found the MRR artickle and I’m goint to use it for referance.
I have other IHC/ Mehano engines that has not been a problem. Must be my fingers and brain coordination.
Great to find so many helpfull and interested MRR frends. I’m also building an N-scale layout for exebitons. All modern BNSF. The big locos and long trains.
US trains are not so big in Norway, but the ons that are comitted, are all hart and soul.
