I am having a new house built with completion due in September, and I want to install a Lionel 027 train up on the walls. My concerns are (1) What do you think would be the best way to support it, (2) How would I support it across hallways and doorways? I figured that a support bridge might be one alternative but I am welcome to all ideas! Please feel free to make any suggestions…Thanx [bow]
Is this to be a layout around the walls or just a single track? What is the height, is it more for display or operations? Is this only in one room or running through the house?

I use the bracket method of attaching my benchwork to the wall for the around the walls layout. Check out my Piedmont Division web site link; just click the link below in my signature area. There are a few methods available for bracket benchwork methods, I have selected the stanchion and metal bracket method, it is a bit more pricy than going with wood only, but it goes up quickly. For the doorways you could use a pull out section as I prefer to avoid a duck under.
I use steel benchwork for my around the walls layout held up with brackets. I like the steel, its easier to use than wood as well as being lighter and cheaper. The tradeoffs are that you have to use grommets for wiring so you dont cut the insulation and you have to put up the benchwork in sections. But this benchwork is only good for a true layout like mine, if you just want a track around the walls I would just put some 1x6 on brackets.
