hi all. can anyone advise the wireing diagraph for installing a cam into a non power locomotive. i got a cam car, but would like to run it through a locomotive . if you can include a diagragh it would help alot thanks. trying to wire up a csx dash 9 at this time.
If I understand you correctly, you want to put the camera in a non powered locomotive.
If I’m not mistaken the camera takes power from the rails, and runs it through some electronics. If that is the case all you really need is a set of pickup rollers on the locomotive.
If you take apart the camera car, you should only have 2 wires connected to the car. I’m guessing they might be red and black. One wire will go to the roller to take power from the center rail, and the other to a wiper on the axel to pick up the ground from the outside rails.
Just transfer all of the components, mount the camera, and recreate the pickup connections. The camera shouldn’t mind where it rides, but you will lose the ability to reposition it by removing it from it’s car, and putting it in the engine.
Good luck.
Oversight on my part Tom. Sorry Pgfd702, and [#welcome]
Hi pgfd702
I guess Big Boy didn’t notice this was your fisrt posting.
Welcome to the form [#welcome]
Good luck with the camera. By the way, did you by the K-line camera car and converting it to the engine? Did you know that K-line makes a car with a camera on it?
tom
Ive seen a video of a camera in a loco. looks just like your in the cab![:D][:O]
As for the kline car, it would be much easier to buy a camera camera car, and not have to worry about wiring above your level of eletronic knowing. plus it also eliminates the probability of a accident.[^] like, oops, i mustave’ soldered the wrong wire on, the circuitry is shot![B)]
I bought a X-10 camera years back. It looks exactly like the one on the K-line car.
I kitbashed it and stuck it in the nose of an old Williams F40PH.
It is fairly easy to do and hook up. If you have the K-line car, as Elliot said, there should be only two electric conection to make. One to ‘+’ and one to ‘_’ . Just pay attention to the location of the wires and were they go before disconecting.
As for mine I removed all the plastic parts from aroud the lens and body & leaving the ant. intacked. Drill a hole for the lens in the front nose and remount everything inside the shell using a hot glue gun. Add a mini connector in the power leads and you should be ready to roll.
If you have any other Q’s just ask.
OH Yaa [#welcome]
I just bought one of those little ones too Pat, picked it up on eBay, cheap.(sorry) I haven’t seen the pictuers from the ones that the train manufacturers sell already mounted, but this question makes me wonder if it wouldn’t be easier to simply buy another camera, and put that in the engine, and save a step.
By the way, Pat I’m still looking for that stuff.
Keep up the hunt Elliot. [;)]
If you or anyone else needs more info on kitbashing the cam just email me.
You can use your cam or buy another one. It is easier and cheaper to just buy the cam.
The X-10’s can even be made to run on track power.
Keep in mind that in addition to the cam and its transmitter you’ll also need a receiver which connects to the TV via a coaxe cable.
