Installing decoders in Athearn engines

I’m about to try installing a couple of decoders in two Athearn engines. What’s the procedure to do so, in particular nsulating(isolating) the electric motor from the chassis. Having insulated the motor from the chassis how does the wiring work to retun power from the decoder to the motor and then to the chassis.

This link shows a typical Athearn Blue Box installation with diagrams of the wiring. They are not too hard to do and there is generally plenty of space in the shell for a decoder.
