installing diaphrams on brass passenger cars

I have several H0 brass Harriman heavy weights. They came separately
equipped with folded u-shaped papers which I assume are to be part of
the diaphrams at each end of the cars. Questions: (1) do they need to
be modified before application, (2) do the papers need to simply be
placed between the metal plates and car ends, and (3) if the papers
need to be glued, which product and method is recommended? Thanks.

I’d think the importer would provide instructions, but I have never
seen any importer of brass models (locomotives or rolling stock)
provide information on making their models ready for operation. Why is
that when the effort and expense would be insignificant to the importer
but valuable to the user?

I would look into using American Limited working diphragms. I used them on a Lambert car with no problems. I installed them using CA. You may also want to think about using Darwin Coupler Pockets from The Coach Yard. Those pockets allow you to adjust the distance between cars quickly and easily.
