installing light in passenger car

Anyone have any tips on installing a light in a passenger car. I am somewhat stuck on the step where I need to pop the roof off (it looks so easy in the drawing!).

This in N Scale and I am worried if I put much pressure on the sides (which is what the drawing suggest) I will break something.

Thanks!

Not knowing who makes your cars presents a problem. I model HO and my Passenger Cars are either Rivarossi or IHC (One in the same) Anyway check the bottom of the car you may find screws or tabs. If tabs are present press them towards the centre line an d push in, This should start the process

I hope you have a Kato car & a Kato kit that fits it. There may be a seam around the top sides of the car that may lift off. You will need to find it with your finger to see how the shell and windows fit over the bottom. Hopefully the window casting is a separate piece of plastic that fits flush in the car windows. The Kato light kit is the way to go!

If you have difficulty, come on over to the Atlas Nscale forum. We have a lively bunch of members there. One of them will be sure to know how to install your light!

Thanks the advice. I was installing lights in two Fleischmann passenger cars. I finally got the roof off with my fingernails. The drawing suggested that the sides should be pushed in but I didn’t feel I could do that without breaking something.

It’s one of those things that after you do it once it’s pretty easy but the first is nerve racking.
