installing new shoes

does anyone have access to instructions to install new shoes on the bottom of cars? it seems simplebut appears to require rivet gun or hammer and metal punch. I would like your help to find instructions so that I can do thison my own since it isa a frequentproblem and one that seems somewhat esay…

This fellow makes custom tools for riveting Toy trains:

The special anvil for sliding shoes is especially useful and can be purchased seperately.
If you have original Lionel bakelight shoes, be careful not to over tighten them. They will crack.
If you are going to reuse shoes, it can be difficult to remove the old rivet without breaking the show, so you may want to keep a few spares on hand.
I don’t even try to save the fiberboard backing plate. I just use new ones.
