Installing Precision Scale diaphragm on Proto 1000 F3A-B

Greeting fellow detailers! An installation question about ‘best practices’ installing diaphragms on F units.

I just purchased an Proto 1000 F3 AB set, along with a pair of Precision Scale diaphragms to connect the units.

The molded connecting doors look ‘capable’ of providing a mounting surface for the diaphragm,.

Here’s the question:

  • Do I glue directly onto the existing door frame OR
  • File down the molded door frame, and glue to the body

Opinions on both greatly appreciated along with suggestions. Thanks in advance.

The trick is to make sure that you can just see the knuckle of the coupler (from the top) after all is installed. That way you will have diaphrams that just touch.
