Instant Rock Wall

Earlier we stopped at Petco. While browsing around, I found a turtle stone barrier in the reptile section. It seemed like it was cast resin and it is prepainted. It was curved and looks like it would be perfect for the inside of a curve track, so I picked it up for $11.99. It won’t fit on my steel mill layout, but I have been thinking about building a module. (It seems like this week I have been doing lots of thinking and not much doing) Here’s a few pic’s of it in case anyone is interested.

From the pics it looks like it will need rusty chalk and dulcote.

Why did the turtle cross the tracks?[:P]

I would imagine slowly.[(-D]

Yikes ! the dreaded “rockwall” feature, every model railroaders nightmare, having to figure out an alternative to the ubiquitous series of non-natural rock “steps” or staircases for trains, on every second layout. There are different methods and ways to incorporate this toy-like feature and it really takes imagination to eliminate this from your layout, “rock walls” are just that, rock walls, when have you ever seen one that looks natural. This feature is always a topic of conversation at train shows and some interesting alternatives have come out of these talks.
