insulated rail joiners

In my n-gauge layout I have two tracks that will cross each other, but I do not have any reverse loops nor any real switches to speak of. For example I do not have any rail yards etc. I guess my point is that I have two ovals that are deformed. Do I need any insulated rail joiners anywhere?

I have laid about 1/4 of the track, my bridges are secured in place and I have soldered my first few rail joiners with little damage to ties, rails or myself.
Thanks to all of you in getting me started. It is good to see some real progress.

It sounds like you’re describing a simple figure eight.

Speaking in terms of standard DC wiring, plastic rail joiners are used to isolate sections of track electrically for what is known as block control. Tracks crossing each other (as in a level crossing) using a commercial track section, is normally insulated so that there is no feed through of voltage from one to the other.
