Asheville NC Model Railroad Club uses the black and brown house insulation building board as the ground base on their 2’ x 4’ modules and nails track to that without any road bed. Has anyone used this material to cut out a higher raised road bed for certain scenes ?
I also have a few 1/2 " thick 4 x 8 Styrofoam Duramate R3 blue insulation boards and has a thin clear layer sheet on both sides. Would this be good for a base on the 2 x 4 modules ?
Not really sure from your description what they are using. We used two layers of half-inch thick Sound Board over hollow core doors to build our HO scale indoor club layout and fastened the roadbed and track with plain latex caulk. No nails in the entire layout.
For our portable modular HO scale layout we use 4 inch thick styroroam blocks measuring 2 x 8 feet. Woodland Scenics foam roadbed and track are fastened with latex caulk – no nails here, either.
Sound Board is an insulation material made from compressed sugar cane and other vegetable fibers, according to the Celotex web site.
