interesing stuff on ebay

A couple of notable items on ebay- I continue to be dismayed at the prices a Marx 333 is bringing these days. The current bid for one at present is $371.00- someone will win that bid this morning. According to my “Classic O Gauge Trains” guide a 333 in C8 condition should fetch $100.00. Guess if I ever win a bid on one it will have to be one that needs restoration.

Also, there’s an interesting “kitbashed” Marx steamer on which the bid has now topped $100.00. Someone has taken 2 cast bodied steamers and made an articulated engine. The photos show they did a pretty decent job but I’ll pass on that one, too. I’ll admit I’ve thought about trying a similar project with a couple of plastic bodied steamers.

333 sold for $406.99 and no tender was pictured or mentioned in the ad. MADNESS!

Yes, I saw that stuff there. I was trying to get a 333 for my kids but wow, the prices have gone silly! Someone just put one up on e-bay still in the box and I’m sure it will fetch several hundred. A set with the NYC passenger cars just sold for over $670! If you were considering selling your set, now would be the time. I’m just going to wait until the fever goes away before getting one.

A good marx engine for play is a 666,diecast and smoke at a much more reasonable price.

If you’ve been thinking of selling a 333 this would seem to be a good time to make a good return on your investment- one sold yesterday (2-26-08) for over $600.00!

A 333 was auctioned off for $860.00 last night (2-27-08). I wonder what these folks know that I apparently don’t?
