I love the [Disneland Limited] from Carolwood and Pacific to Ward Kimbal. To me itis very interesting! I know alot about Walt Disney’s railroad history. It all started when Walt was a newspaper seller on trains out of his town. When he sold out of newspapers he would go to the cab and engineers would show him the controlls and whatnot. When Walt worked at his studio one day he set up an O guage loop in his office, then Ward Kimbal one of the animaters walked in and said “walt I didnt Know you liked trains” walt said “why” Ward said “I have a full scale train in my back yard!” Then walt needed a train to make his it wold be the ride on Carolwood and Pacific R.R. While walt ran Carolwood he always wanted something bigger hense Disneyland And the Disneyland Railroad!
Michael Broggie’s book, Walt Disney’s Railroad Story, has a lot of interesting pics including the early days of Disneyland. For example…for about 18 months in the early 1960s they had a ‘railroad streamliner’ ride, but it was later dismantled to make room for other rides.
