1). July 18, 1953 - NYC announces St. Thomas shops to remain open

2). December 29, 1953 - End of Detroit River Tunnel electric service. ( for Midland Mike)
3). 1957 - Second batch of diesels delivered - new from GMDD and all remaining steam retired by the end of April 1957. Last steam run - #1290 on April 27, 1957. ( and of course they scrapped her and 1291, those could/should have been saved…ancient 4-6-0s)
