Interesting Flat Car Load

Here’s another old post card I found. Caption is Washington Tooth Picks". Back of cars says “Giant Timbers, 100 feet or more in length and six to eight feet square, are being cut from tall spruce growing in sections along the Coasts of Oregon and Washington. Trees from which they are sawed are frequently 200 to 300 feet high” It’s also a one cent card! The timbers apear to be spanning 2 or 3 flats. One inch square by fourteen inch long pieces should be about right for HO!![8D]

Interesting find!! That would make for a very large flat car load in HO scale, but the curve radius’s would be murder! Wonder if maybe they cut those down to a more reasonable length for a single flat 40 or 50 ft. ?
