INTERESTING FOLLOW UP TO PREWAR COUPLERS QUESTION

Hi I am Arnie - I have a 1927 or so 253E engine with several cars all with the latch type couplers. I guess thats the name of the coupler. It has a hook type thingy that latches over the other cars coupler at the same time.

My question is does anyone have any tweaks for the card not serperating from each other? Thhe couplers don’t seem to be the best for holding on to each other and I haved looked at them trying to see if I can tweak them. Maybe you a better solution or trick. I about ready to try small rrubber bands or twist ties to keep the couplers locked. any suggestions?? thanks to any who answer!!

Arnie,

The latch type couplers are a bit of a pain. Try putting the cars in different order to see if some couplers mate up better with others. You may need to slightly bend the couplers a bit if they continue to uncouple. And if all else fails your rubber band /twist tie idea may be the best solution.

I also use a bit of black yarn to help hold them together. It gives a bit more, is practically invisible and without any electric conductivity issues that I’ve had using wire twist ties. Rubber bands were too restrictive - probably too small.
