It looks like MTH has gotten into HO with a vengeance. And despite what people might think about the company, they’re at least living up to their promises about releasing their locos. That Mohawk looks kind of interesting–it’s nice to see some non-brass NYC steam power being offered these days.
I have purchased quite a few O gauge MTH stuff. My biggest complaint is that both the daylight and mohawk are items that have been announced by others. Something different would be nice.
When did they put the Northern out?? I hadn’t seen anything about that. Is it just me? Or does it really seem to lack detail compared to their other locos?[%-)]
They had a job ad online about a year ago looking for someone to head up their new HO division.
What caught me in the announcement was “all of UP’s heritage schemes”!! I thought that Overland/t55 had some kind of an exclusive on the heritage locos. i wouldn’t want to be someone who plunked down big buck$ and now see it coming for $249!! [:O]
Milepost - Overland has already sold a bunch in brass - they had them at last years NMRA show! With plastic as good as it is today, I’d be hard put to pay the difference that you need a magnifying glass to see!!
Overland paid a license fee and purchased the rights to offer the Heritage units, but anyone else could have opted for the same deal. Since MTH went after the Union Pacific about the fees in a legal action, some kind of settlement was announced and MTH probably asked for the right to produce the Heritage units also.
The bottom line is if you purchase the rights, you had better use them.
It is a good deal for MTH but Brian Marsh must be out some money. Overland did produce the brass versions and sold everyone of those, but they need to get their SD70Ace out to get the good return money for the tooling costs of the new plastic SD70Ace.
Ditto! Way too much work too pull out all their DCS crap and retrofit it to run right on DCC… Without sound, smoke, and all the other garbage. (Besides that Mike would sue me if he found out.)
I just wish they would come out with a small 2-8-0, 4-6-0 or 2-6-0. I would grab several in a heartbeat. I don’t have much use for these big engines. They look, sound and run great from what I have seen. - Nevin
I just E-mailed MTH suggesting smaller steam power. Here is the link to their contact us page. If they receive enough suggestions they might make some smaller power. Worth a try.
