I have a Shay with a Tsunami decoder that is behaving mysteriously. I run it with my Zephyr as the throttle and everything seems normal until I press F7. At this point, all motor function stops. Sound is still good.
Any ideas on why this is happening and what can be done to correct it?
Ok this might sound like a couple of dumb questions…but what it the function for F7 and if pressing it causes the trouble…why push it??
Sounds like either a defective decoder or the wrong decoder…but how could that be if you have it in a specific engine. My manual, an earlier Tsunami manual, says F7 is a dimmer. Why it should cut out like that is beyond me.
Mind you, Bruce, if it is actually a QSI, remember that on those decoders F7 is the quick braking function so that you can bring your train to a stop maybe five times as fast as normal if you have a fair bit of momentum set in CV4. This would explain the stopping, but the continuation of sounds…that’s the way it works on all of my QSI-equipped engines.

You could try resetting the decoder or just staying away from the F7 button. [:)]
Have you downloaded the Tsunami documentation from the SoundTraxx web site to see what F7 is supposed to do and how to change or disable it?
There is a special manual for OEM Tsunami decoders installed in Bachmann models.

According to this manual, F7 is “Coupler Clank” but why it would cause the engine to stall is not explained. If you can’t disable it, contact SoundTraxx – they do respond to e-mails.
