Interesting sights in my area.

I live close to the Trinity Railway Express area or TRE in Dallas. The other day we were visiting a friend at Parkland hospital and I heard a rumbling below the parking garage. It was 2 California Northern locos hauling a mix of gondolas and hoppers down the old Rock Island line. One looked Like a GP15 and the other was a Genset. It was a rather strange looking train. For the longest time there was a Algoma Central passenger car sitting next to a place with a pile of gravel. On that line you can see a lot of different things including RDC’s and just about anything in else. I’m not real sure what all goes on, on that line but it is interesting.

Parkland Hospital…wow, that’s a famous place.

AS the CNRR had GP15’s That would be correct. And the parent company has been adding Gensets to the roster.

Never thought about train watching there but there is a lot of traffic that goes by the hospital. It’s famous for the Kennedy assassination. The parking garage is right next to the emergency room. I don’t know if it is in the same location as it was in 1963 or not.

Got any more information on that one?

Next time I go down town I will look and see if it is still there. It was close to an area where they remove gravel out of gondolas. The TRE passes by fairly quickly. I will see if I have any shots of it laying around here.

I think I have figured this one out. They were transporting a Algoma Central diner the other day to the new railway museum in Frisco. I think this may be the same car. It was just stored on the siding off the old RI line near Parkland.

Ah, thanks Rmax. Stainless? That should be the old ex-AC 504 then. It was fire damaged in 1998 and retired, not sure how long it stuck around before being sold off, but I saw a photo a few years back of this car somewhere in the states with MRLX or something similar reporting marks.

Yep it was stainless. It’s going to be great when they get everything setup in Frisco. Only reason I went to the state fair was to go to the museum. It can be a bad part of town at times.

About as interesting as what I saw in my area last Tuesday, 2 BNSF GP60’s of Santa Fe heritage, on former Pacific Electric-now UP trackage switching a lumber yard normally serviced by the UP! Guess things are back to normal, UP had 2 Gensets on the turn yesterday with no BNSF power in sight.

A big part of the line they elevated so it is really hard to see what is up there. The elimination of the crossing is great but cuts down on the railfanning.
