Interesting Train Movie

http://railsandties.warnerbros.com/

I don’t know if this is an old movie or it’s just coming out. I guess it has some model trains in it too.

The movie has a limited release this month and is getting mixed reviews. But the preview clip from the site looks interesting.

Thanks for posting, looks like a movie I can take the wife too

“A deadly collision between a train and car lead to an unlikely bond between the train engineer and a young boy who escapes the carnage.”

“On a beautiful stretch of California coastline, a suicidal mother parks her car on a railroad crossing and awaits the arrival of a speeding train, the sleek and unstoppable Coastal Starlight. Thus begins the story of two families in physical, emotional and psychological collision–of the victim’s relatives and of the train engineer who couldn’t possibly have stopped time.”

It looks like an emotional drama. Reviews have been mixed. Interestingly, it’s Allison Eastwood’s directorial debut (Clint’s daughter).

I’m looking forward to it–it stars Kevin Bacon, one of my very favorite actors (there’s a HUGE breakthrough role waiting for this very talented guy somewhere down the line–maybe this will be it). I don’t know how the film will do–it seems like a very personal drama, and it’s hard to tell how much of an audience there is left for this kind of film. But for myself, I’m going to be in line when it hits a theater near me. Looks too good to miss.

Of course, we’ll have to scour it for errors.

Don’t we ALWAYS, LOL?

Looks like I am going to have to wait for DVD on this one. I searched every zip from Virginia Beach to Richmond and no showing of this little gem. Figures, by the previews it looks pretty good.

I watched the “Dead Zone” last night and it took place on a train. There were some flashs of trains, but the strange thing was, the people got off a wood sided passenger car crossed the platform and got into a streamlined car. The flashes were too quick for me to pick up on the rail line. I believe there was a steam loco and a diesel involved. Maybe it was a flashback to another time period, hence the wood side car.[%-)]

I wonder why a lot of the newer movies are using F units as power? Cheaper to rent and repaint?? Even CSI Las Vegas. Every time they show a train, it’s an F unit.

I think they use F Units for the classic looks. As long as they don’t use a steam whistle sound effect instead of an air horn, I’ll be happy. (I have heard that in some movies. [:-^])

It looks like the kid is holding an RS2 in the shot of them in the car.

Seems like an intriguing film, and it doesn’t have to be great to be far better than the majority of garbage currently out there. Besides, it’s not a sequel! [:D][tup]

I agree that Kevin Bacon is a good actor. I’ll have to check the listings and see if it’s playing anywhere nearby. Thanks for the heads-up, Loathar.

Lots of nice trees…

According to Box Office Mojo, Rails & Ties has grossed a whopping $13,834.00 since opening (through 10/30/07). Widest release in only 5 theaters. No wonder no one can find it!

Looks like this one’s going to DVD soon. I wouldn’t expect a lot out of it. A movie featuring such a recognized star as Kevin Bacon in such limited release is not a good sign.

Oh, and the movie is directed by Clint Eastwood’s daughter (Alison Eastwood). It’s her directorial debut, and maybe not a great one?

It’s playing in 2 theaters in Manhattan, but I’m not going to make that trip just for the movie. I’ll wait for its DVD release as well.

That’s my thoughts as well…I will rent the DVD and then decide if its worth buying…

I don’t know…

At first glance, it looks cool given real trains and model trains at the background.

I fear that will be overwhelmed by predictable sap from the rather difficult-to-swallow plot.

I say this, of course, without having seen it. I may very well be wrong.

This may go on my Netflix list, but I’m doubting I’m going to want to go out and drop the big bucks to see it.

I wonder if they had a hard time keeping the model makers from going overboard on the layout?

“No! No! It’s supposed to be a kids layout! You can’t make it look THAT good!”[:-^] Wonder if someone got to keep the layout or if they pitched it in a dumpster after filming?
