Interesting transformer note for Daan

Hey Daan,

While poking through the Lionel repair manuals (reprints), there is an intriguing note in the writeup for the Lionel type “V”, last made in 1947.

" Type ‘V’ transformer is rated at 150 watts and is able to deliver continuously approximately 110 watts, or about 8 amperes at the working track voltage. This transformer can be used with power lines of 110-125 volts, 50-60 cycles."

I do not know how good this reference is, but many of the other transformer descriptions in the manual clearly specify “60 cycles only.”

Hey and this guy has 4 independently adjustable voltage outputs of 6 - 24 volts (open circuit). Also uses the same carbon roller as the ZW.

Regards,
Roy

Hi Roy,
Good find! The 50/60 cycles is something which I don’t know the effects about. If I would use a zw on 50 cycles, the only thing I can emagine is that it would heat up a bit more… But I’m not sure about that!!
I do have transformers for 220 to 110 volts, but that keeps 50 cycles on the output (obviously).
I didn’t think about transformers lately, since the setup works great, but a V transformer could be an option… Thanx.
