I need help,i wi***o paint the interior off walthers UP passenger cars but i can’tfind out what the seat and wall colors should be, all the pictures i have and have found are in black and white, also getting this information in Australia can be quite hard so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Biggsy
I found one color photo but it’s grainy in quality. The walls are a greeni***an color. The seats appear to be vinyl, are a choclate brown color on the headrest area, and a dark tan on the back. This is my best guess after looking closely. MIght be easier for you just to paint the seats brown, but it’s up to you.
I dug through my books, but could only find exterior shots of UP passenger cars.
One suggestion that might help.
Back in the 1980s and possibly early 1990s, Union Pacific ran various excursions with steamer #8444 and at other times, the E9s.
They pulled a long train of UP passenger cars! It’s very possible that someone over on the TRAINS Forum may have ridden on one or more of those excursions and remembers the interior colors. Perhaps they even took photographs of their friends or relatives sitting in their seats or in the lounge car.
Post your question over there. You may get responses as some of the regular posters have traveled quite a bit by rail in the U.S.
Hope this helps!
Also!
The Alaska railroad ran or still runs with ex-Union Pacific passenger cars. Ask about those as well.
Cheers!
UP still runs their excursions with 844, 3985 and the E units. Maybe you could get a chance to ride one this year, then you’d know what the car interiors look like for sure!
I recently found out that in 1962 Union Pacific retired one of their sleepers and then donated it to the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, NE. It is a 10-1-2 model (10 regular sections, 1 drawing room and 2 compartments), named Lake Crystal. I wrote the museum and they very graciously took some pictures of the interior and e-mailed them to me. In the main area the walls are pale green and the seats are blue. The floor is a brown and light brown pattern that looks like flowers in tiles about 10" square. In compartments B and C the outside walls are pale green and the partitions tan. The upholstery is a reddish brown. The bathrooms are a pale green with a tan ceiling.
I don’t believe the OP is still around, but could you please add this info to this thread… http://cs.trains.com/forums/268092/ShowPost.aspx . Thanks!!! That is some GREAT info, and welcome!!!
