I want to add interiors to my 85’ streamlined HO passenger cars. The only source availabel at local Hobby Stores were the IHC kits so I purchased one for the Vista Dome car., IHC #20157. When I inspected the kit at home I noticed there was no provision for seating in the upstairs dome portion. This seating is also not a part of the Con-Cor Budd Dome Car, their #781. Any suggestions on how to add the seating to the dome portion of the car?
Thanks
George
Try the Palace Car Company. These interiors are extremely simple and look great.
The IHC interiors are garbage at best.
You can also use Red Cap Line interiors-the coach seats, parlor seats and lounge seats are superior to Palace Car seats, plus, Red Cap Line also has a partition kit, restroom kit, water cooler kit, a***rays and bench seats. You can also try Walthers interiors

Most odd. I have the IHC interiors installed in my IHC cars and the dome has a seated interior. A quick check of the IHC web site and sure enough, no interior. Mine are about 2 years old, so I guess that they changed the kit. I would agree that the IHC interiors are lacking compared to others, but $4.95 compared to $17.00 per interior adds up quickly. What the IHC’s need is paint and they can be made to look a lot better than the nasty plastic colors out of the box.
the dome level interior from IHC, is included with the car, not the interior set. very easy build though, sheet styrene for floor, and aftermarket seats, or customizied for diner booth style seating.
Thanks for clearing that one up. I installed the kit far too long ago to remember a small datail like that. [:)]
The Palace kits include partitions and have the floors scribed to aid in placement of the seating. The Palace kits are made specifically for the car mentioned above. Heck, for that matter, you may as well go all out and install Precision Scale seats. The Palace interior kits are extremely simple and look great once painted correctly.
I cheated on some of my cars, and I put black construction paper behind the windows. On the domes, it’s better than seeing through to the car bottoms.
Heartland, do you have a full length dome or centered dome?
If it’s centered you can spruce it up easily your dome section. When you a little free time on your hands; try this challenge:
Out of a piece of sheet styrene (1/64" thick) cut out a rectangular section that is the length of the dome. As you cut, include a 1/2" wide tabs on each end of the rectangle that protrudes out about 2" to 3". The finished piece should resemble a squared version of the Cheverolet symbol.
-
Paint the floor
-
Paint and glue seats from “Palace Car Company” onto the rectangular section.
-
Apply CA to the tabs, and glue to the center of the ceiling sections just past both ends of the glass dome.
-
Show off your dome car![:D]

Beautiful job, Smitty![C=:-)][tup]
Hello Antonio… I have several domes, but decided to give priority to the layout and simply used black paper inside for some domes. My GN full dome is a modified bachman Santa Fe dome which has the interior.
btw, the FP45 was quite the engine. I was at the Ill Ry Musuem recently and climbed aboard theirs. It’s in sad shape; sorry to say.
O.K, I understand.
That’s cool that you got see a cowl up close and personal. Hopefully the museum will restore that one eventually. There is another ex-Santa Fe FP45 that’s been restored to running condition in one of the western states, but I’m not certain where.
Peace[8D]
Thanks for the kudos!! That is just the stock interior that came in the Walthers car (Santa Fe “Pleasure Dome”). I definately wanted to concentrate on getting the dome detailed (along with any other dome car I have) because it is a highly visible area. A little paint can make a huge difference with the interiors!!
