Well, I heard of TOFC and intermodal containers supplanting reefer cars, but never heard of anything like this? A 1960s-era pic of a 40’ wood ice reefer, with it’s wheels missing, mounted on a flat car in Marshalltown, IA. Maybe the reefer was involved in a derailment, but it sounds weird that such a combination was actually used in revenue service:)

Offers more beef to the saying:
“IF the Prototype didnt do it…” etc.
The wildest thing Ive seen were railroad flatcars just like the one in the pics used as bridges up in the northwest. Im not sure if I wanted to cross one of those anyhow.
Wreck-damaged car, possibly en route to North American Car facilities in Waterloo.
Don’t worry about driving over a flat-car bridge, as long as it has a good deck. If the car could hold 70 tons of payload, it’ll hold you!
