Intermountain Paint?

I’m wondering if anyone knows what paint Intermountain used on their assembled Santa Fe/Amtrak Hi-levels?

I sent an email to Intermountain…no response yet.

My guess is some sort of metalizer paint. The shells appear to have been sprayed with a gloss black then the metalizer. But what paints they used is what I’d love to know. I have other Santa Fe passenger cars I need to paint and would love for them to match the Intermountain sheen.

If you don’t have any luck at paint matching from IM, the Alclad paint would be your best bet. You can alter the brightness and depth of the metalc by the various shades of base paint.

I don’t remember who on the forum did a tutorial on Alclad paint. Possibly Aggro?. maybe someone can give a like to the thread. I believe you could experiment and get the match needed.

Thanks Bob. I was thinking about Alclad. Most likely match would be stainless steel (Alclad II #115).
