Guys- New construction will be handlaid code 70, shinohara turnouts. I have lots of freight and passenger rolling stock to upgrade, wanted some insight into the semiscale intermountain aftermarket replacements. Anyone tried to use these with shinohara code 70 turnouts?
Mike
Any wheelsets can bounce through Shinohara frogs. The turnouts are often wide in gauge though the frogs, which can affect wheels regardless of tread width. Code 88 wheels will work but expect to do some tuneup. If you haven’t already purchased the turnouts, I’d suggest going with Micro Engineering, as they are more consistently in gauge as well as DCC friendly.
I bought about 5 or 6, DCC not an issue, I’m doing BPRC (battery powered radio control); the tune-up mentioned is finessing the gauge, no?
Using BPRC (battery powered radio control); the tune-up you mentioned is primarily making sure the track gauge is correct, no?
Yes, the stock rail is often too far from the frog, so the back to back check gauge causes wheels to ride up on the guard rails and/or frog wing rails.
