Does anyone know of a sound decoder for an N-Scale Intermountain SD40-2T? I have searched this forum and the net without success. The engine is DCC ready but I can’t find any decoder that says it is made for it. If not, are the Intermountains compatible with any other makes (Atlas, Athern, etc)? Any help would be most appreciated.
Pass on the sound as nothing available right now is worth the time and money you pay for it (MRC being the only player…horrible sound, terrible reliability).

Now that you have the decoder you have to find a small enough speaker to match.
Thanks for the comments thus far. I have bought an MRC decoder (I hope it’s going to work OK, because I have seen a lot of unhappy comments about them), for my Atlas Dash-8. When I compare the two frames (The SD40 & Dash-8) they look very similar. The only defference I can detect is the length of the LED legs on the DCC board compared to the DC board. Do you think I could use the same decoder in the Intermountain SD40 as I have for the Atlas Dash-8 (once I get that one going), and just replace the LED’s with the one on the DC Board (I am very good at soldering and I have a good, fine iron). Would this work? Any thoughts
My thought is to pass on MRC decoders. Listen…you even admit to reading complaints about them on the forums, but still insist on using them. Now, I am not your wife, but why waste your time and money on a product with such a horrible record…especially when you are going to modify them and void any warrenty that comes with them?
