Intermountain, Smart Dummy ?

Being the lucky reciever of a full set of Ca.Zephyr on my Birthday for my WP layout. I was trolling the web for some Power. I love the looks of the Intermountain FP3 and 7 and came accross a B unit called a Intermountian “F7 B Smart Dummy”.

My Question, I know a dummy is unpowered, Why do they call it a smart dummy? …John

yIf they are set up like the one Stewart offered at one time, they are for a decoder. That is, the power circuit is all there but no motor or gears in the trucks.

I looked at IM web site and all the B units are powered (we are talking HO right?).

There was no reference “smart dummy” on their site, maybe it refers to the units with factory sound?

What the heck is FP 3?

These are an unmotored ‘Dummy’ units with has track power brought in from all 4 wheels to power a Sound Module of your choice. The open grillwork also provides an avenue for escaping sound waves that Stewart & Athearn BB shells do not.

Must be a special run as the IM web site does not list any un-powerd F7B, only powered with or without factory sound.

…Thanks Don, Sounds like I will order one Monday. Im getting a F3A, F7B with sound and a F3B smart D. The detail is so good it brought back a lot of memorys working on them, but then it doesst take very much to impress me LOL…John
