I was casually reading the national train show thread and read that Intermountain is making a U18B locomotive and has a preproduction shell that displayed at the NMRA convention? Has anyone else heard this?
If this is true,
WOW ! [:P]
Now I know most of you are going " So what?" Well I’ll say this:
If you model Seaboard Coast Line and it’s decendants, Maine Central, Guliford, or NdeM, this is good news.
On the west coast of Florida, these units crawled all over the area, replacing the GP7, and Alco units that preceded them during the 70’s - 90’s. I was fortunate enough to have a cab ride in one!
For SCL bumble-bee (black, yellow, aluminum scheme) modelers this is GREAT NEWS!
I heard about this a couple of days ago, and I would have to say this is very good news for people like me that model small rr’s. I plan on getting one in harvest gold and green once they come out.
This is great news for MEC modellers - if its true …
… I took a trip over to Intermountain’s website and can find no mention of it, the only new model they seem to be advertsing is a SP cab forward. The rest are just repaints of their (albiet very nice) F units, and a Tunnel Motor in N.
Does anyone know what compatility of intermountain railway’s GE U18B will be with say Athearn’s locomotives? i have 3 Athearn SW1000’s, one GP7, one SW1500 and one Bachmann Spectrum GE 44 tonner. How well has intermountain railway locomotives operated with Athearn engines before hand? i just want to make sure if i got a U18B from intermountain, that running it with any of my athearn locos would not damage something in them. It would be nice to have a U18B n my Ho scale Leelanau County Railway in CNW yellow and black lettering.
From the 70s thru the early 80s it seemed that these locomotives ran anywhere and everywhere here in the southeast.
On at least two occasions I saw U18Bs at the point of Amtrak trains. In 1981 I snapped a shot of SCL #367 at the head of the Silver Meteor, apparently assisting an ailing F40PH.
I’ve shot CSX MOW U18B’s on several occasions. I’ve only seen 9500, 9503, and 9508 though. I only have photos of 9503 and 9508. I’ve also been on 9503. I’m attached to this locomotive. Hehe.
