Are the Intermountain engines actually Athearn units, tried to find the Intermountain site and could only determine that Horizon Hobbies distribute the units.

They are not Athearn - but direct competitors; in fact both make excellent and different F units. The Athearn Genesis and InterMountain F units are the best - some say one is better than the other…
No they are not athearn. Horizon who owns Athearn just has the distribution rights for intermountain models, like walthers distributes for a bunch of companies listed on their website. this way the company can reach a larger customer base.
