Internet links on this forum

I participate in a number of forums on a variety of topics.

This is the ONLY form whose software require a person to manually enclose a internet reference link in the HTML bracket codes to activate the link.

For those who wonder what I am talking about

Preceed your link with [ u r l ] - with the spaces removed
Follow your link with [ / u r l ] - with the spaces removed; it will activate the link when you post it.

Kalmbach - Is it that difficult to have links automatically activate, like happens on myriad of other forum software packages?

I wonder what you are talking about. Links are automatically activated when I paste them in:

Sometimes my pasted in links automatically activate, other times I just use the reply toolbar icon on the bottom row that looks like chain links. I use Google Chrome as my be browser.

I am using IE8 on one box and IE9 on another - neither activate automatically.

As you browse the forum you will come across NUMEROUS links that have been posted by various posters that are displaying as mere text and are not activated.

I have been using various versions of Internet Explorer for years.

Copy the link. Paste it into your post and put a space at the end so it knows you are done. It activates automatically. It works every time for me.

.

YES! If you allow html coding, then all html codes are active and users can do weird and unnatural things with in the web site that Kalmbach does not want to be bothered with. Using Board Code with the square brackets, or using the icons above to control your post removes the possibility of playing HTML games.

I’m using Firefox, and I just highlight the unactivated link then right click and open it in a new tab.

A test, using Chrome:

https://www.google.com/

It automatically linked by merely pasting.

The fact that the forum software automatically formats links drives me crazy if I’m trying to hyperlink a key word. Oftimes I have to click on “HTML” on the toolbar and straighten the code out myself (sometimes there’s an advantage to being a command line commando, ie, geek).

Hyperlinking a keyword involves adding the URL in the URL tag (ie, [ u r l = h t t p : / / w w w . w e b s i t e . c o m ] keyword [ / u r l ]. This is particularly handy if it’s a long URL.

I’m not even sure what version of IE I’m running. Might be 8.

I also just do as Norm it the link is not activated and just text.

I have had some links also not activate when posted, but if the link does not then so be it.

And no it did not automatically post. I can not post to the site from the full site only the mobile site. In the full site I can not get my keyboard up. Rgds IGN

Ach… you mean like this?

Just cut and paste the line to the forum, highlight it, and then click the link link in the tool bar above.

Is this the Missing Lynx??[:-^]

There are several ways to imbed a link in a post on this forum but, IMHO, the easiest method is simply to hit the “Enter” button after pasting the link into the text box.

Is there anyone who has found that that method doesn’t work?

A number of our forum members seem to get flustered about posting links so hopefully when they learn that it is as easy as turning on a computer they will link to their Heart’s content…
