Internet trains and Digitrax.

On the Internettrains.com website there seems to be a duplicate listing for the same product at two different prices OR maybe not.
This page lists the DT-300R throttle at $174.24 and it is definitely a radio throttle.

But this page lists the DT-300 throttle and in the first section it says that all you need to convert to radio control is UR-91 reciever for low cost tetherless operation… at $131.74

Has Internettrains made an error or is there something about the Digitrax system I don’t know? Note the image on both pages.
Thanks for any insight.

JaRRell,
It isn’t an error. The DTxxxR throttles are radio-equipped, the DTxxx “non-R” throttles have infrared ability, and the UR91 has both radio and infrared receivers.

In other words:

DT300R + UR91 = radio wireless

DT300 + UR91 = infrared wireless

Both have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages, depending on the situation.

HTH,
Steve

Ahhhh… ok, I get it. They’re meaning they are both ‘tetherless’ Boy, I sure like the radio control. It would be nice to go over to a wreck or to check a turnout switch without having to then walk back to the controller. On the other hand, walking is good for ya.

Hi JaRRell,

The wording is a little misleading. As Steve said, the 300R and a UR91 will make a radio wireless system. Adding a UR91 receiver to a 300 throttle will get you infrared wireless capability. The UR91 also uses radio, but the 300 (non R) throttle does not. You can have a 300 converted to a 300R by shipping it off to a dealer or Digitrax. The cost is about $40 or $50. If I’m not mistaken, regardless of who you ship it to Digitrax has to do the conversion because of an FCC issue with installation of radio capability.

If infrared is good enough and you will not be upgrading to radio, the UR90 is about $80 or $90 less expensive than the UR91 and supports wired and infrared operations (not radio). However, depending on your room and layout shape, you may need more than one UR90 for full infrared coverage whereas a single UR91will almost always provide full radio coverage.

At the risk of telling you something you already know, I’d spend the extra $21 for the DT-400 or 400R. I have both a -300 and a -400 and the -400 is easier to operate because almost everything is accessed with one button (which is why it has so many!).

I would go further to say that I got my DT400 for $128 through my club. However, I was taking a little hit because I had seen it for $126 the previous day, I don’t remember where I saw it, but it was one of the advertisers on the side of this site. The same site had a Zephyr for $145.
