Intra-city transit options

I’m working on some things for a city area, but I don’t know much about the different kinds of traction systems (if that’s the right use of the word) out there. I have seen trolley’s and doodlebugs, as well as subways and Elevated subways systems (L trains?). What else is out there, preferably something that is only 1 or 2 cars in length.

Thanks,
Wes

Wes,

There is something called a subway-to-surface car, which is a trolley that runs alternately under and over ground.

Wes, If you are going to have sufficient space my design idea would be to have a trolley run down thru main street on a grassy rite-o-way with the street being on each side (kinda like old New Orleans). But instead of the traditional 3 rail I would opt for On30, the Bachmann “United Traction Co.” set looks pretty good on paper.

What about a k-line superstreets track, painted a darker grey/black. You could mold the edges into the car streets, so it looks like rail embedded in blacktop. Then paint your lines and potholes, cracks, etc. The only problem is that you would limit yourself to trolleys only, or other really short vehicles because of the turning radius of the superstreet curves.

I need to find one of those. I’m sure it looks like a subway car.

Interurbans are nice. Train City has them on sale for $169 a pair.
