Finished both CSX SD80MACs in YN2 and YN3
I am actively working on the CNW SD80MAC
Nice work, Gabe.

âMaybe 5â?
Negotiations with the G&W and RJ Corman are kinda tough since they use older EMD power and they arenât willing to give them up that easily one of the EMDs that is potential with the 5 other GP9s is an Ex. Southern Pacific SD9 (Specifically PNWR 1854 maybe others on PNWRs Classic SP unit roster) and the funny thing is it still has its original lights (the aux light/extra set of headlights on both ends) and still has the extension for the red emergency lights that were on SP units in the 70s-80s-ish era.
Presumably you donât know about this:

Note the list of locomotives, cited in appendix A.
One would think that G&W might be willing to consider donation of these locomotives, with the condition of the prime movers being relatively unimportant for display or more modern repoweringâŚ
Thanks for that @Woke_Hoagland and Iâll see what I can do. Still, some units might sit on static display while others will be used in excursion service and paired up with a unit with HEP and lead the trains. As for the replicated SD80s, PRLX is apparently using SD70ACU Frames (obviously they are longer than that of an SD80MAC) no word on the SD89s yet.
Forgot to mention, Does anyone know what happened to the MLW/ALCo used in Beast Games?
Are you are trying to reproduce the SD89MAC, or get the original? Only one ever existed, and it was never seen outside EMDâs test facilities as far as I know. I believe it was scrapped. If you are trying to replicate it, you will probably need to put a 710 engine in it. The 12-cylinder 265H in the SD89MAC was the only one ever operational in a locomotive (I donât know if other test engines were built but only one was ever used). Unless you try to aquire a new 1010-T4 from Progress Rail (a design based on the 265H), you probably wonât be able to replicate the engine. As far as the exterior, the SD89MAC used the same body as the SD90MAC-H2, which looked almost identical to the SD70ACU.
Thanks for that, and the SD89 still exists but getting a second built would be sweet the current one sits as a test bed for Tier 4 710 Testing its going into Tier 5 testing in late-2026
Just a heads up, I will be making a thread solely for paint schemes and locomotives suggestions/recommendations
I didnât know Progress Rail kept the original SD89, that is quite interesting that it is now a test bed unit. Unfortunately documentation on it is pretty much nonexistent.
Here are a few examples of the SD89MAC in La Grange, IL
I know NS tested/leased the SD89MAC a few times
They also are working on EMDX 9501 the EMD SD60ACe
I would expect more to be built in the near future
Wow! I do know a bit about #9501. It started life as an SD60MAC, one of the first locomotives to ride on HTCR trucks with AC traction motors. This was when the SD70MAC was in development. Burlington Northern tested the four SD60MACs in coal service. They were returned later on and that is when BN purchased the SD70MACs. Itâs cool to see that at least the 9501 lives on and has been improved.
Yeah, I only just heard about 9501 in late July when I was first looking into Railway Preservation actually. I know where the other 3 SD60MACs are but thereâs little documentation on them right now. (9500, 9502, and 9503)
So you donât have money in hand to acquire anything, and your few day old organization with no history, facilities, or reputation is in active negotiations?
Youâre writing a lot words with a lot of aspirations, and honestly I would not donate. It seems rather unbelievable.
Those photos are over ten years old. I doubt anything new will be built. I think youâre âgamingâ us, going by your username.
Itâs my online name that I have been going with for more than 5 years and stuff has gone underway I donât wanna be rude but I wouldnât rather but Iâd have to say to quit with the comments relating to this being fake when itâs not
Do you have 501c3 status?
