Introducing the Trains.com Forum Points & Rewards Program! šŸš‚

How does the virtual gift card show in your trains store account?

I find the ā€œheartā€ menu useful for the occasions where someone posts something that I especially like but where I donā€™t have anything of value to add to the conversation.

That is an interesting question. I had forgotten they introduced this system, and just for the heck of it I decided to see how many ā€˜pointsā€™ I had. Well, I couldnā€™t see anything labeled ā€œpointsā€, but definitely something labeled ā€œcheersā€, and I had quite a few. Enough that if they were the fabled points, Iā€™d have gotten somewhere!
I have no idea what my numbers were for previous months since I figured Iā€™d just carry on as I was, and in the unlikely event I reached a reward tier theyā€™d let me know.

According to the ā€˜leaderboardā€™, 62 people managed to meet at least the ā€˜Tier 1ā€™ threshold. Over 30 made the ā€˜Tier 4ā€™ threshold. Thatā€™s a lot of gift cards! just looking at the tier 4, $100 store credit, multiplied by the 33 users who accumulated more than 351 pointsā€¦ thatā€™s $3,300 in store credit being awarded. And thatā€™s ignoring everybody between 201 and 350 points.

Now, knowing many people are regular forum posters and readers, Iā€™m sure that the amount of people who meet the threshold must be semi-consistent from month to month.
Iā€™m a little skeptical that Firecrown is giving away this much store credit every month. ā€˜If it seems too good to be trueā€™ and all that.

Iā€™ll happily eat my words, but I think itā€™s reasonable to be skeptic. At the end of the day, Iā€™m here to see people post about their trains, to post about my own, and have discussions. I donā€™t really think the bribery was ever necessary.

Hi everyone,

Weā€™ll be exporting the names and emails of the winners todayā€”this is still a manual process. Props to El for going through the counting process!

Once the winners are in a spreadsheet, Angela from our team will reach out with your virtual gift card via email.

Regarding points calculation: From the start, weā€™ve been open to adjusting the point structure, including both the tier totals and which actions earn points.

Viewing past months: The left menu will display the current and previous monthā€™s leaderboard. If you need access to another month, just message me, and Iā€™ll provide the link(s).

At the end of the day, this leaderboard is meant to be fun and encourage engagement. We appreciate your participation and hope you see these efforts as part of our commitment to making this forum the best it can be. Please continue to respect each other, follow the guidelines, and most importantlyā€”enjoy the platform!

Hi Nick.
I think the rewards program is great. I was wondering if it is possible to transfer rewards to a fellow forum member such as a young person or some one else that may have a very limited hobby budget?

Let me check with Angela on this - it may be linked to an email address but Iā€™ll check and get back to you

Love this idea!

Hi Nick. I would like to donate my points for March to anyone (or more) you wish

This is great! Let me check with Angela on how this works - it may be something that you have to provide to the person versus us do it on your behalf but more to come

Love seeing the ā€œlet me help someone in needā€ mindset!
Unfortunately i cant take part in that right now(need to shop) but itā€™s always great to see a helping hand offered

Thatā€™s very kind David, but Iā€™m with Jimmy. I took a look at the shop yesterday and theres a lot of great stuff on there. Some tools I could pick up for my own layout work.

Iā€™m with Jimmy & mdmasc91 but that would be nice to do down the road,

So, what exactly are ā€œcheersā€, and how does one get them or award them to others?

Is it like measles?

I think its the new name for points.

Btw, i got my email saying to watch for a virtual gift certificate. Thank you to all who started this program

I also got this months reward, I am wondering if part of the reward can be put toward the shipping charges or if that charge would be an expense added afterward. The reason I am asking is, shipping to Canada could negate any benefit gained by the reward if I have to pay it.

I just ordered some things and the shipping was covered by the credit. They have a line on the order to estimate shipping, so you should be able to keep the order plus shipping under the credit.

Thanks, John, I have all the tools Iā€™ll ever need but I might give some of the paints a try.

Yes. Part of the reward can be put to shipping.
I did that last month on items sent here in the U.K.

Thats great to hear.
Now to wait for the credit and then ā€œgo to townā€

@maxman from what I can tell, ā€œcheersā€ are the same thing as ā€œpointsā€, as far as the point based rewards system is concerned. Why they are called ā€œcheersā€ in the forum, but referred to as ā€œpointsā€, I donā€™t know.

@Jimmy_Braum I too got an E-Mail saying to watch for a gift card. Will report back when I receive it!

I definitely am grateful to them for wanting to try this out. Iā€™m still curious about how it will affect the forum long term, and also I donā€™t want that to make it seem like I donā€™t appreciate it either, as I certainly do! I hope it is successful, and does a net good for the community.
