Investigators say rail yard fire looks suspicious

What a shame .

Investigators in Vanderburgh County called a fire that broke out in a rail yard, suspicious.

The fire happened around midnight Monday night near Allen Lane in northern Vanderburgh County. The fire destroyed the rail company’s regional office.

It’s considered a total loss. Melted siding and burnt equipment is all that remains of an office trailer in the northern Vanderburgh County railroad yard.

The trailer was the regional office for Indiana Southwestern Railway, a connecting railroad for CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroads.

It kept important documents crucial for everyday operations of the railroad.

The trains continued to run as scheduled Tuesday, but it’s disturbing for the building’s general manager and the parent company.

Graffiti is spray-painted all over the building and the general manager said when he left work Monday afternoon, it was not there.

This is the second incident targeting this office in just a week. The general manager said it was robbed last Friday. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating that incident.

Now, it’s up to fire investigators to find what caused Monday night’s blaze. Sheriff’s deputies don’t know if these two incidents are related.

While the location of the office off Allen Lane is pretty remote, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said a lot of young people travel up and down the tracks.

Indiana Southwestern’s parent company, Pioneer Railcorp, is offering a $25,000 reward for information on the fire.

could that be indiana southern and not southwestern cause i have never heard of southwestern

I believe they took over what is left of the old Illinios central track , I think up to Poseyville .I have read some info on them a while back at the Pioneer Rail web site.

I have a bunch of family down there in Evansville, not really suprised that they mentioned people traveling along the tracks my cousins used to hop freights around there all the time back in the 80’s and had lots of storys about getting shot at by rail crews with shotguns loaded with rock salt so that makes me think trespassing was a big problem back then, guess it still is
