Do they dry corn before it is turned into inefficient, expensive ethanol, used as a gasoline additive that ruins our vehicles, raises costs, and lowers mileage figures? The only ‘winners’ here are the propane producers, and the voting farmers. Thanks, “Greenies”!
$2.6 million is a mere drop in the bucket for the annual Iowa DOT budget. Their rebuilding I-29 thru Sioux City and it is taking upwards of $1 billion and 10 years to do. Iowa’s DOT mess and folly.
You’re welcome Mr. Hays, I’ll say yes to the requirement for all grain is to be dried to meet a specific grade. This process is also done in Mt. BTW. I find it hard to understand how some people can quibble over having cleaner and healthy air to breath. All over less that .01% power loss per gal of gas.
Where is this propane terminal supposed to be located? I thought the article would say more about the former Mason City & Clear Lake (wish it would go back to that name!) than it did.
Corn often needs to be dryed because the moisture content may be too high when it is combined and would spoil when stored.
I had the chance to railfan the Traction with some friends last year.
Very interesting operation. I would highly recommend a road trip to take a look, you wont be disappointed.
Wait till the NIMBYs hear about “dangerous” propane trains!
Where are the other projects that got approval and where is the Mississippi River port facility?
Nice location for a house!
I need to follow Mr. Davis’s lead and railfan the Iowa Traction soon. I only live 2 hours away!
There is a closed terminal on the west end of the IATR at Clear Lake. That is probably the location to be used. IATR does not run east of Federal St (US Highway 65) unless they are storing cars. Oh, the NIMBYs had a fit a few years ago when empty and new tank cars were spotted. IATR runs Monday-Friday, days only.
