Is anyone a SP 4449 fan?
Any information on 4449 or 4460.
Locomotive conditions.

Yup, I have racked up about 4000 miles chaseing her. There is even a picture that was in a trains mag with my dad and I in the background (along with many others) on Hwy97 just north of Klamath Falls, Or. The last time I saw her was on a trip up the Columbia river george on the BNSF painted black.
You mean there is someone who isn’t?
hey chad, was that trip through Yakima and the Stampede Pass? If so, I was on that train with you. Man she is an awesome Engine. I am glad that she is back in her Daylight Colors!! I hope that the 4449 has more excursions, but there isn’t anything yet. Too bad that BNSF cares more about the Locomotive than UP does, I know they have their own steam program, but they really should let the 4449 get to ride on her home rails more often!

I saw and chased 4449 when it was on the American Freedom Train – jeez that was 30 years ago or so! It got really dirty running through Tunnel City WI.
I had the privilege of being inside the cab. Many of the controls that the engineer would touch were chrome plated and there was a beautiful SP logo (sorry first try at this message said “loco”) milled into the wood floor of the cab.

I belive that trip was in June 99’. I had just moved to Stevenson, Washington and did not know about that run. I was totaly shocked to hear a steam whistle going through town. I tried to get to the tracks to see what was going on but that was futile. It wasn’t till the newspaper came out that I knew whitch engine it was that went through. Everybody in town just called it the steamer and nobody knew what one. I was totaly bummed that I was so close yet I missed her. That’s OK though she came back through the next summer and I got to see her again. As the matter of fact I got to see a lot of steam on that line as they also ran the SP&S 700 through there too. And your right about the paint, she just don’t look as good without her Daylight paint.
Greetings,
I am planning on being out in Portland, OR for some of the NRHS Convention next week. If SP #4449 runs on July 6th along the Columbia River, any good suggestions for photo spots between Portland and Wishram on the BNSF ?? Just wondering.
